Get Involved

The Ju Dachi Martial Arts club, has planned various Karate courses and events for the upcoming months in 2017. And students, will also be able to attend a number of events held by the JKA England. Sensei Jonathan is notoriously known for doing things with short notice, but from now on Sensei Jonathan will be releasing a newsletter every three months, packed with all the up to date upcoming events and information, including those important dates for your diary.

A lasting Legacy

Sensei Jonathan’s ambition is to leave a lasting Shotokan Karate legacy with top performing students in and out of competition. And one day Sensei Jonathan would like to see those students at the Olympics. This can and will happen with your help. Growth is key to the sucess of any club. We want to train and hire more instructors from students within the club. This takes time, time to train, time to grade, time to learn how to teach. We are contiuosly looking for pottential within our own club, you never know… the next instructor could be you.

Grading 26th November 2017

Its that time of the year again, when our students put all their energy and effort in demonstrating their learned Karate skills and training and learning efforts. Our students are put under pressure to perform at their best on their Grading day. Remember: Don’t limit your challenges, challenge your limits! Yep! Time to put all that hard work in action to move to the next level, to receive your next belt. As before, Sensei Jonathan will have two instructors from the JKA England to conduct the grading. The grading will take place at St Anne’s Church, Thorburn Square, London, SE1 5QH

We would kindly ask that all fees are paid as soon as possible and by October, in order for us to get everything organised. All students who have completed their progression cards should be taking their grading. If any student has any questions, or would like to recap on certain techniques, katas, etc, please let your instructor know. Remember that also private one to one lessons are available from Sensei Jonathan. Please ask if interested.

VERY IMPORTANT-  Please note that all students will need the following in order for them to be able to grade:

  • Fully stamped progression card.
  • Attended pre-grading course
  • Course and grading fully paid.
  • ON THE GRADING DAY, BRING UPDATED LICENCE BOOK (it is the student responsability to keep their licence book and insurance up to date. Otherwise students may not be able to grade.)

REMEMBER: FEES SHOULD BE PAID IN ADVANCE, directly to Sensei Jonathan. If you pay on the day, there will be an aditional charge of £ 10. Collecting fees on the day takes up valuable grading time, and we are giving plenty of notice.

Grading Times

Remember that Karate starts and finishes with RESPECT from the moment a student enters the Do Jo. Remember to follow our club’s protocol at all times, arrive promptly, bow when entering and leaving the Do Jo, when called by an instructor, etc. Failure to do so, may result in student not passing the exam. If you don’t have acopy of our club’s protocol yet, please ask.

Please, remember to bring your JKA licence book or you will not be able grade. If you do not have a license book you must inform us immediately.

The grading will start promptly at 15:00 and will finnish around 17:00

The results and awards ceremony will be onthe same day where students will receive a signed certificate and their belt upon successfully passing their grading/exam.

JKA England Squad Selection

A squad selection for Senior and Junior Dan Grade students is taking place on Sunday 1st October 2017.
Following England’s success at the JKA World Championships in Limerick last month, where the JKA won Team Silver in Kumite and Team Bronze in Kata (the ONLY country to achieve this with the same team members) The JKA is asking clubs to encourage students to attend the National Squad Selection on the 1st October 2017. England wants to continue to build on this success, continue to be a force in JKA Europe and the World and increase its medal haul in the future.
We have a wealth of world class talent in our club and for any of our students from WALES and LONDON wishing to get into the future Olympics, this squad selction day is a must. Let your instructor know about your ambitions in Karate, and we will help you get there.

The FUTURE is what you make it. And we are here to help you

Words from Sensei Jonathan, the Chief Instructor:

“I often ask myself this question, as in life why does only a small portion of people truly succees.  The answer is quite simple, if you were to look back on your life how often would you say “if I was to do that again… I would do it differently.” Quite often an opportunity is staring at us in the face, and we are so consumed with everyday life that we ignore it. We simply chose to become stuck in a rut. Those who are successful will tell you that it is not an  easy task, so get ready to fail, learn from your failures and each time you do this over time, you will become wiser. You know the saying (learn from your mistakes.) Remember you are going to fail but it’s how you deal with it, what makes the really big difference. This is no easy task and the bigger you aim, the bigger the potential crash and the stress. So how we combat this? How can we overcome this? The answer is right here:

Karate reduces stress, which will helps you maintain a clear thinking head.

Karate is great for exercise as you improve your fitness so does your overall mental state.

Karate teaches that you fail once, and you stand 10 times. Wether a student fails a Kumite competition, or a grading… there is always room for more training, learning, improvement, and perfection.

Karate teaches confidence. A confident you, means you can stand on your own two feet and have the confidence to take those risks.

So how about you being our next instructor? Would you like to run your own school with hundreds of students? Would you be the next Olympic gold medallist? Only action takers will be able to have a chance. Are you an action taker? Here at Ju Dachi Martial Arts, we can help you and guide you to get there. Just let us know your ambitions and inspirations in Karate. Take action!”
