Open Vertical Hand Block Part One

In lesson seven, Sensei Jon demonstrates how to perform a vertical open hand block (Tate Shuto Uke.) This technique is used to parry an attack such as a straight punch. Tate Shuto Uke works by diverting the attack into the void using very little strength.  In this lesson you will learn the fundamentals that make Tate Shuto Uke.

Notes

• Practice with feet shoulder width apart

• Keep your shoulders relaxed

• Keep your back straight

• Ensure when the hands are open fingers are together

• Make sure feet are facing forwards
